Launch of Bhaktimala – Konkani Devotional Songs

Bhaktimala – a collection of eight Konkani devotional songs, penned by Mr. V.M.Pai and rendered by Sri Shankar Shanbag was launched on 22nd November 2010, Monday at Kashi Mutt Ashram at Malleswaram, Bangalore.

The melodious songs in the album have been written by Mr. V.M.Pai over a period of eight years, and is one of the few devotional songs album in Konkani. The sales of the album in the first day was an indicator of how popular the songs are from the album.

Sri Shankar Shanbag is well known for his melodious rendering of devotional songs. His consistency in resonance and carefully honed timbre will ensure that the audience are kept spell bound listening to all the songs in the album.

  1. What is the character and means of the highest realization ?
  2. What should be done under all circumstances by a person who is on the verge of death?
  3. What should be done by persons in general – What should they hear, what should they chant, what should they constantly think of, what should they resort to, and what should they avoid ?

Sudhindra Vaani

Great Bhakthas such as Purandara Daasa have composed Bhajans based on revelations of scriptures received by them through constant and sincere practice.  Singing such bhajans of bhakthas or devotees elevates the singer.  It is  not enough if one sings the bhajan.  One should understand the meaning expressed through such songs and devotees should then tell one another and discuss their implications.

Acharya Madhwa and Significance of Madhwa Navami

The nineth day (Navami) of the Shukla Paksha of Maagha, is observed as Madhwa Navami, all over India especially in the muths owing allegiance to the Tattva Vada of the great saint and philosopher Sri Madhwacharya, who strode India like a collusus between 1238 A.D. and 1317 A.D.  In 1317 AD, in his 79th year he started from Udupi on his third pilgrimage to Badrikashram, never to return,on this very day viz., Maagha Shukla Navami.  This day of his disappearance is observed as his Punya Thithi or sacred remembrance day.

Chapter 1 . Vrishni clan put under spell of curse

The first chapter opens with Sri Suka briefly mentioning atrocities commited by the Kauravas on the Pandavas and the resultant Mahabharatha war as willed by the Supreme Lord to lessen the burden of the earth. When Sri Suka mentions about the curse wrought on the Vrishnis as willed by the Lord, King Parikshit wonders how a clan such as Vrisnis devoted to the Lord could come under a curse. Details are then given on the insolent behaviour of Samba and the resultant curse from the Sages. The curse runs its curse only in Chapter 30.

Chapter 2. Vasudeva’s query to Narada on Bhagavatha Dharma and Narada’s narration of instruction by nine yogis to King Nimi – instruction by Kavi and Hari

In the second chapter Sri Suka reports of a casual visit of Narada to Dwarka where he visits Vasudeva and in turn is requested by Vasudeva to be instructed in the Bhagavatha Dharma or devotional duties through which mortal beings could be rid of all fear. By way of answer, Narada narrates the instructions of the nine yogis (sons of Rishabha and descendants of Priyavrita) to King Nimi at a Brahma Satra which is a prolonged sacrifical festival of scriptural discussion.

In the third chapter, King Nimi enquires about the true nature of Maya, the deluding potency of Supreme Lord Vishnu. The answer is provided by the third of the yogis viz Anthariksha.
